“World” or “Earth” in Revelation 13:3?
"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast." (Revelation 13:3, KJV)
The charge is that “γη (ge)” should be translated “earth.” Vine’s Expository Dictionary, however, gives the following for the second definition of γη: “(b) ‘the earth as a whole, the world.’” Not surprisingly, English speakers also use “earth” and “world” interchangeably, such as in referring to the United Nations’ “Earth Summit” also as the “World Summit.”
